Everything you'll actually need to do in HYLTH, in the order you're likely to need it.
Contents
Getting started
There are two ways into HYLTH, and they start differently.
If a coach invited you
- Open hylth.co.uk/join, or tap Got an invite code? on the sign-in screen.
- Type in the code your coach gave you. It's short, and it only works once.
- Set your email and a password. That's your account.
If the code is rejected, it's usually because it has already been used or your coach has since cancelled it. Ask them for a fresh one rather than retyping it.
If you're starting with an AI coach
- Tap Start with an AI coach on the homepage.
- Create your account and subscribe.
- Fill in the consultation form. Your first plan is built from it, usually within a few minutes.
The consultation form
This is the long form you fill in once, and it's worth doing properly. It asks about your goals, your training history, how many days a week you can train, what equipment you can get to, any injuries or conditions, and your food preferences and allergies.
It matters more than it looks: the answers about available days decide how many sessions a week you're given, the equipment answer decides which exercises you're offered, and the injuries answer is used to prefer movements suited to the complaint you describe.
You can change these answers later from your Profile. Nothing is locked after the first submission.
The injuries and conditions question is health information, so HYLTH asks for your explicit consent before collecting it. You can decline and still use the app — you'll just get less tailored exercise choices.
Your Home screen
Home is the day at a glance. Each tile is one number, and tapping a tile opens its history.
Depending on what your coach has set up and what you've connected, you may see: steps, calories eaten against target, protein, carbs and fat, weight, sleep, water, caffeine, and how many workouts you've completed this week.
Reading the macro and calorie tiles
These fill up as you log food through the day. The target comes from your coach, or from your AI coach's plan. If a target looks wrong, that's a conversation with your coach rather than a setting you change yourself.
Choosing which tiles you see
- Go to Home.
- Open the customise control (the sliders icon).
- Switch tiles on or off, and drag to reorder them.
Your choices save as you make them — there's no separate save step, and leaving the screen won't lose them.
Trends
Tap View trends to see everything as charts over a week, a month or three months, with your targets drawn alongside. This is the screen to look at before a check-in, because it shows direction rather than a single day.
Logging food
Your day has four meal slots to begin with, labelled M1 to M4. You can add up to two more with Add meal if you eat more often than that.
Tap a meal slot, then Add meal, and you'll get five ways to log something. They exist because different foods are easiest to find in different ways.
Search food
Start typing into the search box at the top. This is the fastest route for most things and covers packaged products and whole foods. Tap a result, set the portion, and save.
Scan barcode
Tap Scan barcode and point the camera at the packet. You'll be asked for camera permission the first time.
If the barcode isn't recognised, you'll be offered Enter by hand instead, and a button to email the barcode to us so it gets added for everyone.
Log from a photo
Tap Log from a photo, then Take a photo or Choose from library. HYLTH estimates what's on the plate and its macros.
It's an estimate, and it tells you so. If it's wrong, use Not quite right — search instead or Not quite right — enter by hand rather than accepting numbers you don't believe. Try another photo is there if the first shot was poor.
Enter by hand
For anything homemade. You'll be asked What is it?, How much did you have?, and then calories, protein, carbs and fat. Only fill in what you know.
Saved meals
Anything you eat regularly. See Your nutrition plan below for how to save one.
Getting the portion right
After picking a food you'll land on a portion screen with Portion, and the protein, carbs and fat that follow from it. Changing the portion recalculates everything else. This is the step most worth slowing down on — a portion that's out by half is the single biggest source of a day's numbers looking wrong.
Editing or deleting something
Tap the entry in your diary. You can change the portion or remove it. Your totals recalculate immediately; there's nothing to resync.
Your nutrition plan
If your coach has built you a day plan, it appears on your Nutrition screen as what to eat rather than just a set of targets.
Following a plan
- Open Nutrition.
- Tap into the plan and use Follow this plan.
- Log against it through the day as you eat.
Where your coach has built separate Training and Rest day versions, you can switch between them with Change. If you've changed things and want to go back to what your coach intended, Reset to coach's default does that.
Saving a meal to reuse
After logging something you eat often, save it. It then appears under Saved meals whenever you add a meal, so a regular breakfast is two taps rather than four searches.
Shopping list
Your week's plan can become a tickable shopping list. Open Shopping list from the Nutrition screen. Items are grouped so you're not walking the aisles twice, and ticking something is remembered.
Shopping lists are opt-in, and they switch themselves off if you haven't opened one for three weeks. If it's disappeared, that's why — turn it back on in Settings.
Supplements
Your coach can put supplements on your list, and you can add your own with Add to my list — a Name and optional Notes. Tick them off as you take them.
Doing a workout
Open Workouts. The strip across the top is your week; the card underneath is what's suggested for the day you've selected.
Starting one
- Tap View to see what's in a workout before committing to it.
- Tap Start when you're ready. This starts a clock and is what marks the workout complete at the end.
The day a workout is suggested for is a suggestion, not a lock. Anything assigned to you this week can be started on any day.
Logging your sets
Tap an exercise to open it. Enter the weight and reps for each set as you go, and tick each set off. Where HYLTH has a suggestion from your history, it's pre-filled — change it if it's wrong.
A rest timer starts when you complete a set, and you'll get a notification when it's up, so you can put the phone down.
RPE and RIR
At the end you'll be asked how hard the session felt. Some coaches also ask for reps in reserve per set — how many more you could have done. Both are just numbers to your coach; be honest rather than generous.
If you lose signal
Keep going. Workouts are built to be logged in a basement with no bars: everything saves locally and syncs when you're back. You don't need to wait for a spinner, and you won't lose a session.
Looking back at a session
Scroll the week strip backwards, or tap a completed day, to see exactly what you lifted.
Finding everything you've been assigned
The Workouts screen shows the week you're looking at. If your coach has programmed further ahead, that work is real but not visible there.
- Open Workouts.
- Tap See all assigned workouts.
This lists everything still to do, across every week. You can sort it soonest-first, latest-first, or grouped by type, and filter to just the kinds of workout you care about.
Completed sessions aren't here — this is what's outstanding, not your history.
Building your own workout
You aren't limited to what your coach assigns. You can build and save your own.
- Open Workouts.
- Tap the + next to "Your workouts".
- Search the exercise library and add what you want.
- Set sets, reps and rest for each one.
- Name it and save.
It then sits under "Your workouts" permanently, ready to start on any day. Anything your coach has assigned you also appears there once you've completed it the first time, so a session you liked is easy to repeat.
The library covers weights, cardio, yoga, Pilates, mobility and guided mindfulness sessions. If you only ever do two of those, you can hide the rest with the sliders icon so you're not scrolling past them.
Swapping an exercise
Mid-workout, if an exercise isn't going to happen — the rack is taken, or something hurts — you can swap it.
- Tap the swap icon on the exercise.
- Pick from Suggested alternatives, or search the full library.
The suggestions aren't random. They favour exercises that train the same muscles in the same sort of movement, with equipment you've said you have. Where the library lists a direct alternative, or an easier or harder version, it says so.
Just today, or from now on
After swapping, you'll be asked whether to make it permanent.
- Just today changes this session only. Nothing is sent to anyone.
- Ask my coach sends a request to replace it in that workout from now on. Your coach approves or declines, and you're notified either way.
Today's swap applies immediately regardless — you're never waiting on a decision to get on with your session.
If you're coached by H, the AI coach, a permanent swap takes effect straight away and is remembered in future plans. There's nobody to wait for.
Check-ins
A check-in is the regular conversation with your coach about how it's actually going. Your coach sets how often.
- Go to Profile, then Check-ins.
- Tap New check-in.
- Answer the questions and submit.
What it asks
Whether you stuck to your nutrition and your workouts, and what got in the way if not. Then Today's weight (kg), Average sleep hours, past 7 days, and optionally Resting heart rate and Walking heart rate. Then a set of 1–10 ratings: sleep quality, stress, fatigue, energy, hunger, digestion and recovery. Finally Nutrition plan feedback, Overall wellbeing and Additional comments.
The free-text boxes are the ones your coach reads most closely. "Fine" tells them nothing; "energy dropped after Wednesday and I was starving by Friday" changes next week's plan.
Progress photos
You can attach front, side, back and scale photos. They're optional.
Progress photos are the most tightly restricted data in HYLTH. Only you and your own coach can ever see them. They're never shown in the community feed, in messaging, or anywhere else in the app.
Comparing over time
From your check-in history, Compare photos puts any two photos of the same angle side by side. It's a better read of progress than the scale on any given morning.
Submitting with no signal
A check-in saves and sends itself later if you're offline. You can close the app.
Water, caffeine, supplements and weight
The small daily things, all from Home or Nutrition.
Weight
Tap the weight tile on Home, enter Weight (kg), and Save. Weigh yourself in roughly consistent conditions — same time of day, same amount of clothing. Day-to-day movement is mostly water; the trend line over weeks is the real signal, and that's what your coach looks at.
Water and caffeine
Tap the tile and add a serving. Both roll up into your trends and are visible to your coach, so they're worth logging honestly rather than aspirationally.
Supplements
On the Nutrition screen. Tick things off as you take them.
Wearables
If you've connected Apple Health or Health Connect, steps, sleep and heart rate come in automatically and you don't need to log them. Connect it from Settings.
Talking to your coach
Messaging is in the app, not email, so your coach has the context in front of them.
On a phone, use the chat icon in the header. On a tablet or the web, Message Coach is in the left-hand bar.
You can send photos and video as well as text, which is the fastest way to ask "does this look right?" about a lift or a meal.
If your coach is H, the AI coach
H works the same way and replies straight away. It has your plan, your logs and your check-ins in front of it.
What it won't do is diagnose anything or tell you whether a symptom is serious. If you describe something that sounds like it needs a person, it will say so and point you at real medical help rather than guessing. That's deliberate.
You can move from an AI coach to a human HYLTH coach whenever you like, and your history comes with you — logs, workouts, check-ins, all of it. Browse coaches from your Profile.
Video reviews
Your coach may send a video walking through your trends and talking over your plan. It arrives as a message. There'll be a written note alongside it too.
Community, challenges and referrals
Community
The feed is your coach's client group — only people coached by the same coach, nobody else. You can post text, photos and video, and react and comment on other people's posts.
Progress photos from your check-ins never appear here. If you want to share one, you post it deliberately as its own thing.
Challenges
Your coach can run challenges with a leaderboard. You're entered by taking part; points come from the things you're already logging.
Referrals
From Profile, Generate my code creates a referral code to pass to someone. Both of you get points when they join.
Your account
Everything here is in Profile, then Settings.
Subscription and billing
Under Billing. Manage billing opens your payment details, invoices and cancellation.
If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, billing is managed there rather than by us, and the app will send you to the right place.
Notifications
Choose what you're notified about — check-in reminders, messages from your coach, plan updates. Rest-timer alerts during a workout are separate and always on while a session is running.
Appearance, sound and haptics
Light, dark or follow-your-device. Haptic feedback can be switched off.
Exporting your data
Request a full copy of everything HYLTH holds about you. It's yours; you don't need a reason.
Deleting your account
Under the danger zone at the bottom of Settings. Deletion is scheduled 30 days out, and signing back in before then cancels it. After that the health data is permanently erased.
A small amount of information is kept after erasure where the law requires it — payment records, for instance. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what and for how long.
Changing your email or password
Both from Settings. Changing your email needs you to confirm the new address before it takes effect.
